Realm 05: Lushmeadow-On-Down

Difficulty: Easy

Goal: Build a dungeon with the usual rooms, and make sure it's fortified. Then, head north across the lava, to show the other Keeper who's boss.

New rooms this level:         Prison, Guard Post
New Creatures:                     Bile Demon (If you're quick), Spider
Starting Gold Amount:     3000
Starting number of Imps: 4
Your Portal Max:                25
Enemy Portal Max:             none
New Spells:                          Sight of Evil

Opening Dialogue: The bloody axes of war and famine have so far bypassed this quiet backwater, leaving the inhabitants totally unaware of the purpose of real agony and loss.  Unbearably, most die of old age.

Objective: It's time to mete out the ultimate punishment to a keeper who dares to challenge you for this corner of your subterranean empire. The price of failure shall be oblivion.

The good news: no heroes to stand in your way on this level. The bad news: there is another dungeon keeper. He’s got the same resources you do.

An enormous river of lava separates the two of you. In the middle of this lava is a prison, which has creatures that will join the first dungeon keeper who gets there. Make sure you're first.

It pays to be a bit more aggressive here. Start building rooms as described below. As gold permits, spawn imps until you have at least 10 or 12.

Dig out the gold west of your dungeon heart and make the area into at least a 5x5 treasure room. Don't claim the portal just yet. Build a large lair south of your heart (at least 7x7). Make a 5x5 hatchery west of the lair, and a 5x5 library east of the lair. Claim the portal.

Build a training room just north of your dungeon heart. Make it a maximum of 5 tiles north and south, and at least 8 tiles east and west. You don't have to fill it all right away, but you want lots of room for expansion. Let your imps fortify your walls (That's why you need lots of imps)

Make a tunnel on the east wall of your training room going north until you come to the lava. You should see a prison north of your training room. I was able to pick up the creatures in the prison without even claiming it If you can, do so, and set them to training. Then go ahead and claim the prison by building a bridge to it.

Dig a ledge along the lava going east. You'll encounter a couple of gold veins. Mine them and keep going. At the east end of the lava river is a small island with an increase level box. Build a bridge to the island, let an imp claim it, then use the increase level immediately.

Now, start making a ledge along the lava going west. You'll need to extend the bridge you built to claim the prison to avoid creating another entrance into your dungeon.

Watch out for bridges built by your enemy. Claim them when they appear, and sell all but one of them After all, you'll need to get across the lava to crush him. (How considerate of him to build the bridges for you.) Keeping one bridge allows you to get across, but limits your enemy's access to your dungeon. He should exhaust most of his resources trying to protect his bridges. You should have no trouble waltzing north to his dungeon heart and destroying it..

As previously mentioned, there is an Increase Level box to the far east of the map.. There is also a Resurrect to the west. You can use the speed creature spell to hurry up expansion, research, and combat

Victory Text: You have slain your rival. His defeat is a testimony to your clever dungeon design. You have the makings of a Dungeon Keeper worthy of the name.

Closing Dialogue: Knife: The streets run with the blood of the slain. Screams of pain and howls of anguish rip the night air like a vengeful siren's song. This really is somewhere you can take the kids for the weekend.
